📝 Description

Samsung SM-A137 (Galaxy A13) – MT6358 Power IC Hardware Solution

Samsung SM-A137, also known as Galaxy A13, is a MediaTek based smartphone. The power section of this model is controlled by the MT6358 Power IC. This IC plays a major role in starting the phone and supplying proper voltage to all important sections of the motherboard. In daily repair work, many dead or restart problems in SM-A137 are related to this power IC.

Function of MT6358 Power IC

The MT6358 Power IC receives power directly from the battery and distributes stable voltage to the CPU, RAM, internal storage, display, backlight, camera, audio, and network sections. When the power button is pressed, this IC controls the complete power-on sequence. If the MT6358 fails, the phone will not turn on even with a good battery.

Common Problems Seen in SM-A137

Based on practical repair experience, the following issues usually indicate MT6358 power IC fault:

Phone completely dead, no vibration or display

No response when pressing the power key

Phone stuck on logo or auto-restarts

Very low or zero charging current

MT6358 area heats immediately after battery connection

No display or no backlight due to missing voltage

These problems commonly occur after water damage, charging short, hard drop, or power surge.

How to Diagnose MT6358 Power IC

Start by checking battery voltage. It should be between 3.8V and 4.2V. Then check the main power line (VPH_PWR) with a multimeter. If battery voltage is present but the phone is still dead, MT6358 becomes the main suspect.

Using a DC power supply is very helpful. If the phone shows no current draw or unstable current when pressing the power button, it usually confirms a power IC problem. Also check for short circuits near the MT6358 area.

Visual inspection is important. Look for corrosion, cracked components, or damaged coils and capacitors around the power IC.

Hardware Repair Solution

In some cases, reflow of the MT6358 IC may temporarily solve the problem if the issue is caused by dry solder joints. However, this is not a permanent fix.

The proper and permanent solution is MT6358 Power IC replacement. Carefully remove the faulty IC using controlled hot air temperature. Clean the pads properly, then install a new or reballed MT6358 IC and solder it correctly.

After replacement:

Check for short circuits

Measure main voltage lines

Power ON the phone using DC supply first

Also inspect nearby coils, resistors, and capacitors, because a faulty supporting component can damage the new power IC again.

Important Precautions

Always disconnect the battery before heating

Avoid excessive heat to protect CPU and memory

Use good quality flux and proper tools

Confirm the fault before replacing the IC
